122: Misty

My guest is Dr Julia Round who has written a fascinating book about the comic Misty. She shares some of her insights into how gothic works in British girls' comics and we also discuss the four Misty collections released so far by the Treasury of British Comics.

Do check out Julia's work and her Misty database on her website, and please get in touch if you can help with the hunt for some of the unknown writers. Dr Round's book Gothic for Girls: Misty and British Comics is available from all good bookshops, and the four Misty collections are available from the 2000AD online store.

You can find a list of episodes so far and all the upcoming books on the Facebook page, follow the podcast on Twitter, and on instagram, or email me comments and suggestions to

  1. I've just listened to the podcast and thought it was excellent. I have Julia's book which is a thorough and comprehensive resource on all things Misty. It is wonderful to hear that Misty is still being discussed and celebrated. I write this as a huge fan of girl's comics, Misty in particular, and the proud owner of a complete collection. I was also thrilled to get a small name check in Gothic For Girls.

  2. Thank you, Helen. Really glad you enjoyed it. Julia is a fount of knowledge on this stuff. If you ever fancy coming on the podcast to talk about girls' comics please get in touch.
